I recently updated LibreOffice for windows on my Win 8.1 PC. Since then I have been able to open it. I need this asap.

(Also using Win8.1, I am not an advisor on the system. My own upgrades didn’t show serious problems.)
If your system isn’t broken fundamentally: “As soon as possible” you will be able to work with your files again if you download PortableApps and LibreOfficePortable. You then may repair your system in peace and quiet.
Please note that PortableApps may be designed and advertised stressing portability. It though does well run from a local HD folder, too, and can insulate applications partly from system (registry?) flaws.
You can install the LOP without the platform software, it’s just a Start Menu -like program to keep them updated and open them from single place with single click.
