In LO Writer, by default, an auto-generated Table of Contents extracts text from the document with a "Heading x" style. In my case, each heading so styled is a person's name. I want to add an explanatory note from the text of that section to the entry as it appears in the TofC. The explanatory note, which happens to be a date, is formatted differently in different sections, so I want to add this date manually to the TofC entry so I can format it consistently.

Let's say the first section is headed "Joe Smith." That name will be formatted as Heading 1 and, the auto-generated TofC entry will read something like "Joe Smith ..... 3"

But there will be several Joe Smith sections, so I want this first one to appear like "Joe Smith (Feb. 4, 2011) ..... 3"

I know I can use a different style for the headings (which will leave no auto-generated entries), and add a manual entry for each section (Insert | Indexes and Tables | Index Entry), but is there a better way?

Thank you

(added later) Not the most elegant solution, perhaps, but it occurred to me that I could add the desired text (the date) to the heading then change the color of that additional text to white. It shows up in the TofC but not on the page.

I'm using LO ver. 4.4.0.3 on Windows 7 Professional (64) SP1 English.
