How does one change default value of column width?

In Calc, you can go Format > Column > Width to set the width of the column. The default value is .89 inches.

How do you change this default value?

The default column width can be changed by using a template.

  1. Open LibreOffice and click Spreadsheet to create a new spreadsheet.
  2. Change the column width to the value you desire by going to Format > Column > Width
  3. Go to File > Templates > Save, enter a name for your new template, click My Templates under Templates - Categories and click Ok.
  4. Go to File > Templates > Organize and double-click My Templates. Select the name of the template you just created from the list that appears. Right click on the name of your template and select Set As Default Template. Click the Close button.
  5. Close the current spreadsheet without saving changes.

Now when you create a new spreadsheet the column widths will be set to the width you specified in your template. These steps can also be used to set the default row height by substituting Format > Row > Height in step 2.

This does not work in 5.2.5.1
If you follow the instructions, it only changes the height of the first row. Every new document you open using your new template looks the same.
But even if you select all cells before step 2, it does not change the standard height of 0.45 cm.
If you open the “Row Height” dialog and set the “Default value”-checkbox, the old default value (of 0.45 cm) is used. So you can NOT change the default row value by this.
