Formula Objects in Calc don't format gracefully

Version: 4.2.7.2
Build ID: 420m0(Build:2)
(Ubuntu)

When in Calc, I placed Formula Objects in certain cells to illustrate the calculations that the sheet makes.

When I resize the column, the objects sometimes:

  • Disappear
  • Relocate to a different cell

Aside from that, it doesn’t seem to be possible for center the formulas/objects in the cells. It would be great if the objects could be attached to cells, instead of the geography of the paper and would be subject to the formatting rules.

Is there a method or setting that I can enable to make this more intuitive (no disappearing objects, objects tied to cells) After all, if I wanted the object attached to a location on the paper instead of a cell, I would have created this using writer instead of Calc.

While not under editing the formula (‘Math’ object) is a graphical object. Like other images it cannot be content of a cell in the sense a numerical value or a text is. Calc offers two options for anchoring graphical objects: ‘To Cell’ or ‘To Page’. Default is ‘To Page’. For your purposes you may have to change that.

(I heard of some issues with graphical objects in spreadfsheets but I don’t know details for the moment.)

I couldn’t test with V4.2.7. Please consider updating to V4.3.5 or 4.3.6.

V4.2.7 as well as the recent V4.4.0 may be too “fresh” (not optimally matured / bugfixed) for your purposes.
