I recently installed windows 8 and it made libreoffice start and save very slowly. How can I make it save run fast again?

In windows 8, it takes about 15-30 seconds to load up a document and save it. It takes too long! Any idea how I can make it save (at least) as fast as the software did in windows 7? Writer was practically as fast as MS word back then.

Have you tried re-setting/re-naming/deleting your user profile: LibreOffice user profile - The Document Foundation Wiki No idea why but this seems to fix a multitude of problems.

I have LibreOffice 4.4 on both windows 7 and 8.1. It is slow on both systems during startup, and can also hang up to 20 seconds upon saving. As long as I don’t press any buttons during this time it does not crash. The system was bought last year, an acer laptop. It is definitely seems to be a compatibility issue, as LibreOffice on my Linux Mint partition is much faster, and within windows it can hang on the main intro menu itself, and not just in loading up Libre writer.

In LibreOffice, if I go into ‘Tools>Options>Memory’ and reduce the number of remembered steps to around 20 can start LibreOffice faster on occasion, although it could be coincidence as it can sometimes still hang. Setting LibreOffice to load upon startup doesn’t seem to make any change. Playing about with other settings might do the trick if you know what you are doing. I wouldn’t ignore a possible graphics driver issue or the need for a certain graphics cache setting, eg if LibreOffice has an issue in identifying integrated graphics on some systems. It would seem the reset options within Libre only reset to your last settings, rather than initial set up upon installation.
