How to change print page size (page setup)

I am on a Mac, dont think that matters here, but anyway, here we go… I designed a postcard that is 1/4 of a page (5.5x4.25) and when I go to print, I want to print it on an 8.5x11 page. But Libre wants me to print on a 5.5x4.25 page since thats the size it was designed. Normally, in an other program, you have a page setup option, and a print option. In Page Setup, you choose what size sheet you want to print to.

I can’t test on a Mac, but on both Linux and Windows the print dialog Options tab has a check box for “Use only paper size from printer preferences” that probably does what you want.

No, sorry. Thats not it. I need to be able to see a menu that lets me select US Letter (8.5x11). Libre is forcing this document to print on a 5.5x4.25 document (which doesn’t exist on my printer). I can choose the tray, but not the paper size.

Try it, create a document thats 5.5x4.25, and send to your printer. It will either give you an error because you dont have that paper loaded, or will blow it up to fit.

I have the same problem. I need 8.5 x11 paper size. That is standard except in legal form. Legal is 8.5 x 14.

So I have libre, a great program yet I can’t find the most common letter size in the world. I am sure it is somewhere, but even in templates, I’ve not found it. My submission must visually conform with that size.

It makes no sense.

I think the paper size you are looking for is called US Letter- see if you can find that in the list.
Incidentally, it is standard (almost) only in the US. The international standard closest to it is A4, which is used (almost) everywhere else.

To set up the page size of a document in Writer, you select Format > Page > Page tab, and you select the desired format there, e.g. US Letter (8.5x11 inches).

To set up the page size when you print the document in Writer, you select File > Print > General tab, and there you select the desired printer. Then you click the Properties button below and to the right of the Printers box, and select the desired print format there, e.g. A4 (8.27x11.69 inches).

I just carried out the above steps and created an A4 printout of a US Letter document. It even looks a little weird with the margins, you can tell that the print page size was not optimally tailored to the document page size.

Am I missing something in your posts? I use LibreOffice 5.4.0.3 x64 on a Windows 10 laptop, hope that does not make much of a difference.

That is greyed out on my Ubuntu Box (Libreoffice 6.0). Any idea why?

After you select the paper you want to use, I have found you must do the following:

  1. In the PRINT Dialog
  2. Click the OPTIONS tab
  3. Check the USE ONLY PAPER SIZE FROM PRINTER PREFERENCES.
