How to import cell styles from another spreadsheet?

I’ve created some cell-styles in one of my spreadsheets that I would like to transfer over to a new spreadsheet. I can’t find the way to do it.

I’ve found two help pages on this topic and both refer to elements of the UI in the Styles and Formatting window that don’t seem to exist on my installation.

First step is to open the Styles and Formatting window, which works fine, but then in both cases there is a step to open a submenu which I can’t accomplish on my installation.

  1. In Using Styles From Another Document or Template it says to “Click the arrow next to the New Style from Selection icon to open the submenu.” Unfortunately I can find no such arrow.
  2. In another help page, Load Styles, we are told to “Click the New Style from Selection icon and keep the mouse button pressed. Choose Load Styles from the submenu.” That also does not open any submenu.

I’m at a loss.

@JohnSUN To clarify: I can get the Styles and Formatting window to appear. The problem is that the steps mentioned above that say how to open a submenu to import styles don’t work for me. Minor edits above to try to clarify in the original question.

In older versions (I last tested with 3.6) there worked a tool ‘Style Catalogue’ > ‘Organiser’ which may have been a remnant of StarOffice times. This tool was designed for what you are looking for. The dialogue mentioned was opened by Ctrl+F11. The key is still preset in V 4.4.3 but does not respond (I’m on Win 8.1). I don’t know whether there is a bug or whether the tool was finally deprecated. For me what JohnSUN described works fine. We may import styles into our templates e.g. this way.

The help texts quoted here may be valid for Writer. The appearance and the functionality of the ‘Styles and Formatting’ tool depend much on the software component (document class). Writer also is using Ctrl+F11.for another purpose.

Just copy the cell with applied style and paste it into another document anywhere. The cell will be moved along with the style. Then this cell can be cleaned (deleted) - the style will remain in the workbook and will be available to format any cells.

Best answer so far, though it can get a little cumbersome when working with many styles.

The steps in the question work for Writer. In Calc, copy and paste is ok as a workaround but the load styles feature would be better when there are many custom styles involved.
