Field gray is sticky

I am using Zotero to manage my citations. It generates fields each time I insert a citation. But, if I insert the citation and then click away, when I come back to continue typing, all of what I type gets included in the field; the gray highlight that denotes which text is covered by the field gets extended over whatever I type. If I just remember to type something like a space or period before clicking away, it doesn’t do this, but sometimes I forget. How do I make it either stop doing that, or at least how do I say “No, that part of the text is not part of the field”?

Try with Ctrl-M (Menu/Format/Clear Direct Formatting) before introduce new text.

If mariosv’s solution doesn’t work: Can you reproduce this issue without using zotero? If yes, please describe the steps required to reproduce this.

The best solution is to do all of your editing for any note with a zotero cite in it in zotero rather than in LibreOffice. If you do it in zotero (click on the reference and use the prefix and suffix fields) the text will update when you update the citations. If you do it in Libreoffice, and then update your citations, zotero will overwrite your changes with its own, replacing your text with whatever is in the zotero fields (probably nothing if nyou did not use them). Likewise,m any fixes to references should be made in zotero, not the libreoffice doc or they will get overwritten by zotero.

If you already have a bunch of citations with text in them, you can turn zotero’s field codes off, making all the references and any bibliography into plain text that you can edit as normal.
