Why do documents open only from within LibreOffice, not from Finder?

Why can’t I open documents using the Contextual Menu/Open With… command, or even by double-clicking files that list LibreOffice as the default app in the Mac Finder? The only way I have been able to get documents to open is to use the File/Open menu from within LibreOffice v4.4.4002. I trashed and deleted the LibreOffice prefs, but that didn’t help. Is this a bug, or is something else wrong?

I am using OS 10.10.4 Yosemite on a 2010 Mac Pro.

Same here, I get this message in console.app:
24.06.15 16:43:30,311 CoreServicesUIAgent[9219]: Error -60005 creating authorization

Ditto on a MBA 2012 Yosemite.

Ditto on MBA 2014 10.10.3 Yosemite

I’m the maintaner of LibreOffice Vanilla app, and I think it is a bug. I’m investigating.

Thanks much!

yeah thanks!

Same problem with latest update to LibreOffice (v.4.4.4004).

i imagine its a lot of work debugging this sort of thing (i know nothing about it myself…), but roughly when can we expect an update on this issue - not even a resolution, just an update on resolution time-frame?

It looks like you partially addressed this in an update on the MAS. Unfortunately, your CFBundleDocumentTypes entires are wrong which is quite annoying. LibreOffice is now claiming to be LSHandlerRank=Owner for file extensions that it does not own. It should be listed as LSHandlerRank=Alternate for file types that it supports but is not the owner of (eg: Microsoft, Word Perfect, Plain Text, Rich Text, CSV, …). Currently, this causes plain text files to open with LibreOffice by default. =(

Over a month plus to updates in the MAS later, and this super annoying bug is still not fixed. I provided you with the solution, so it would be great if you could fix it please! Also reported in bugzilla as https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94595, so hopefully that will raise more visibility.

I just downloaded v.4.4.4006 from the Mac App Store and the problem has been fixed. Thanks!
