The chart became into image

LibreOffice 4.3.7

I got a MS pptx file, then I saved into ppt file from MS powerpoint, and I tried to open this ppt file from the Impress and found the chart became into image, therefore I don’t have any chance to modify the statistical data. Is there any to avoid this problem? Thanks.

Test chart.ppt

Please upload the pptx-file.

I already uploaded the files, both files cannot get the correct information thru Calc.

The charts in the pptx-file gets its data from an embedded Excel OLE. But in LibreOffice, charts are OLE themselves. So you would get an OLE in an OLE, if the chart would be based on this Excel data, and the inner OLE is not editable. So the charts are changed to be based on own data table. Therefore there is no way to show the data table below the chart.

It is a missing feature in LibreOffice, that the data table cannot be shown together with chart for charts with own data. I have not searched in Bugzilla, whether a feature request already exists.

In case of the ppt file, the chart is mainly treated as picture in PowerPoint. Clicking on it activates the Drawing tool. Only context menu allows you to go back to the underlaying table. Therefore the picture of the chart is used.

If the producer of the pptx file uses the “save as odp” feature of PowerPoint and reloads the result, he will see, whether a collaboration with LibreOffice will be possible.

I see currently no way to avoid the converting problems.
