Chart does not update when cell content change

Hi,

I have an annoying problem using libre office calc (4.4.3.2 Windows 7).

I have a spreadsheet containing a lot of sheets. Each sheet has the same format: some data and some XY charts.
A few times a day, a new set data comes. I duplicate an existing sheet and paste the new data.

Often, when I duplicate a sheet, the source and destination charts get disconnected from the sheet cells. The ‘Data range’ contextual menu is replaced by ‘Chart data table’ and pasting or setting new values in the cell does nothing.

Sometimes, the ‘Data range’ contextual menu remains here but the chart doesn’t update as well. I have to move the chart on the sheet to force the update.

I don’t know if there is something I’m doing wrong of if it’s a bug.

Toughs ?

This part of the observation “Sometimes, the ‘Data range’ contextual menu remains here but the chart doesn’t update as well. I have to move the chart on the sheet to force the update.” is found here by many users searching.

“Broken” charts, sometimes only a few, then suddenly many and occasionally all charts failing to update is a serious problem. Sharing a broken file causes different reactions on different systems. This topic is reported and still current at Bug #86321, Bug #136160, Bug#136254. If you have a sample file please contribute it on Bugs.

It seems that the version 4.4.4.3 has solved the ‘Data range’ problem.

But it has been replaced by another one. The duplicated charts reference the duplicated cells but the curves are the same as the source sheet. If I change a value in a cell, the chart does not update. If I edit the chart (Edit mode) the curves are updated according to the new values. If I leave the Edit mode, the chart goes back to previous state (identical to the source chart).

If I move the chart (few pixels) on the sheet, the curves are updated. If I change another value, the chart if not updated. I have to move again the chart to see the new curves.

The Ctrl/Shift/Alt F9 shortcuts does nothing.

I’m having the same problem with LibreOffice 5.3.3.2 on Linux. It’s annoying me too.

Bad:
-1- New problem in old thread.
-2- No question, but a complaint.
Was this issue ever reported to bugs.documentfoundation.org?

Yes (the topic chart fails to update). Many (perhaps most) technical users grind to a halt in their projects due to broken charts and some report it with samples.
Bugs #86321, #136160, #136254
Xisco Fauli remarks difficulty finding someone to take up this serious problem (since 2014).
Joel marked the subject as highest MAB (Most Annoying Bugs) yet priority “Minor”. Not sure how that works!

Lionel, George, Lupp, Yagisanatode - would you mind mentioning if you still use LibreOffice despite this?

I have the same issue as Lionel with version: 5.3.6.1 (x64). I had to open the sheet in safe mode and save it there and then it seemed to work fine.

EditSimply saving, closing and reopening seems to have a similar effect.

This is a different problem (the problem of OP was solved long ago). Your issue seems to be https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=111428 (fixed in upcoming releases)
