Failed to open display on debian OS

Aim doing a libre office installation on debian 8.1 os, but getting error

root@Cloud1:/home# cd libreoffice/
root@Cloud1:/home/libreoffice# instdir/program/soffice --writer
Failed to open display

Please help me on this error.

Is this a headless installation? or X11? and why are you running as root?

Hi Alex,

Fresh installation doing, on this server and this does not have X11.
