After installing Windows 10, all of my LO documents are locked

I can only access them as “read only” or “copies.” The response says that an “unidentified user” as them blocked.

Your question + Q55838 appear to be duplicates of each other. Bug report required?

Can you create say a new Writer document, save it, and reopen an edit it, or does it only apply to the old files?

These problems are usually cleared by renaming your User Profile so when you next open LO a new profile is created.

Is this problem only related to LO files? If it is occurring on files for other applications too then it looks like a problem with the Windows 10 install and you should look in some Windows Forums.

I agree with peterwt that it is almost certainly your (User) Profile that is the reason for this locking. However, there are two locations & files that may be the cause, so lets try to give an over-view to help both you & others in the future:-

When you begin to edit a LO file, it creates 2 lock-files, with different names & locations:-

  1. Same folder
  1. Profile folder

When you finish editing, those files are supposed to be deleted.

If, the next time that you begin to edit, LO finds either lock-file then it assumes that some horrible error has occurred, and uses the info within the lock-file to report that error to you.

That is the quick summary of LO/OO file-locking.

It is also true that “Profile corruption” is a potent & continuing source of LO/OO bugs. However, do also take note that the reason that I know the info above is because these problems with lock-files for me were the early signs of HDD breakdown.

Removing both lock-files should allow access back to your documents.

You can find the location of the 2nd lock-file from the contents of the 1st. Let’s say that the file being edited is called:

  • file.odt
  • lockfile: .~lock.file.odt#
  • lockfile contents: (my-name),(network-name),(computer-name),(date),(profile location);

Re-naming your User Profile can fix this & other quirky LO/OO problems; make sure that both LO/OO & the Quick-starter are switched OFF before you try that. The Profile is re-created with full defaults on restart.

If this helps then please tick the answer (:heavy_check_mark:).
