How do I sort two columns in a spreadsheet, one based on alpha order, next based on custom sort list?

Hello. I need to sort a spreadsheet in Calc (latest version) based on two columns. I know how to sort, & I can sort these items if I just type the info into a new Libre sheet and then sort. However, I am getting the info from an Excel spreadsheet and putting it into Libre format. I have also tried to save as CSV, and also tried to remove all cell formatting to attempt sort. Nothing works for me. I will have to do this type of sort repeatedly, so typing a new spreadsheet in Libre is not feasible.

I’ve never asked a question before, and apparently I can’t attach a copy of the spreadsheet because I don’t have enough points. Sorry. Not sure what that means.

Here is a short version of what I’m trying to sort: Column A is colors, Column B is sizes. I need to sort colors by Alpha, then sizes by xs, s, m, l, … When I sort using my custom sort list (created under Tools & Options), it sorts the sizes by alpha rather than my custom list.

I’d appreciate any input. Thank you!

No problem!

  1. sort by SECONDARY: size
  2. sort by PRIMARY: color

Now you have a table sorted by Color and then by size. You can do this with as many columns as you like: i.e. you could add a third column called “Style” (Tee, Sleeved, V-Neck). Now imagine that you can use this sort to sort by Style, then Color, then Size. Effortless!

Will create a new post

I absolutely love this feature (and LibreOffice as a whole)! So much that I’ve donated $100 to TDF on the basis of just that.
