There is no versions number. In the older versions there was a version number.
The older version was intuitive. The new one is not.

How does one choose “Insert - Envelope”? The help is silent on that important matter.

In the menu bar at the top of the window, click on the word “Insert”. A drop-down list of menu items appears. Scan down, and approximately 2/3 the way down is an item named “Envelope”.
