Attach baseline to grid

Hello,

I was wondering how it is possible to have a typography grid on which baselines would attach in Writer. Meaning you have a constant-spaced grid of baselines, and then the paragraphes you write just stick to it, adjusting automatically the spacing between them if needed.

Example: I decide I want a 12 pt-spaced baseline grid, it shows them in light gray or blue. Then I type in a text in 12 pt, so no problem. Then next paragraph in 10 pt, it automatically add 2 pt to keep a 12 pt line height. Then I want a 18 pt title for the next paragraph: Writer “skips” the regular baseline, and instead sticks the baseline of this title to the next one, resulting in a 18pt title within a 24pt line height.

This feature is called “register-true” in Writer. You enable it in the page format dialog in tab “Page”. Writer does not use a numeric grid, but you have to determine a reference paragraph style. And in that paragraph style, you set the line spacing. The distance between paragraphs should be set to zero in case of register-true.

Thank you so much!

I’ve been looking for this feature for days now!
I could be nice if the baseline grid were displayed, but for now, it’s already good not to have to manually adjust everything!
