Ask LO forum etiquette

This issue may or may not be a big deal, but I’m new to this forum and I want to make sure I adhere to proper etiquette. I recently answered a poster’s question (mine was the only answer). He acknowledged my answer as correct in reply, but did not mark my answer as correct (or accepted).

As I understand it, accepted answers increase karma. It appears I can mark my answer as correct. Would doing so violate forum etiquette or guidelines in any way?

Hi LKeithJordan

I did an exercise recently & found that just 2 in every page of 30 questions was marked as ‘correct’, even though almost every question had an answer & most of those had been accepted. It seems that the majority of AskLO questioners are Prima Donnas (“egotistical, demanding, and flamboyant”) of terrifying stature, either much too elevated to stoop to anything so undignified as clicking on an answer logo, or else waiting for the Perfect Answer that will cause the doors of heaven to open, a shaft of divine light to illuminate their mobile, angels to descend and, as cherubs wipe the perspiration from their brow, a Celestial voice will boom out:-

“This is my Answerer, in whom I am well pleased”

And only in those circumstances will they click the Answer. Maybe. Probably tomorrow.

You can try to click your own Answer but, with only a little karma, will probably find that you will get rejected by the system. That was my experience.

If this helps then please tick the answer (:heavy_check_mark:)

…and/or show you like it with an uptick ()

Alex, you certainly get the laugh vote (grin). I tried to mark my answer as accepted and an automated message told me “Sorry, only moderators or the author of the question accept or unaccept the best answer” – so I guess I’ll just have to wait for Divine intervention.

At least the OP said thank you. Many don’t – and this seems true of forums in general in my experience.

BTW, the ∧ in addition to the :heavy_check_mark: was for the best laugh I’ve had all day.

Many thanks, Keith. As a chocoholic, I went to the supermarket to get my hit after posting the answer, and was grinning all the way there. Perhaps that answer was assisted by divine inspiration (I do believe that a clown can be a holy fool) (or deeply disturbing).

If your own answer is the answer, then it’s the answer. Simple as that.
