Issue with uninstalling 4.4.5.2 and installing 5.0.2

Context: Windows 10 Home, 64 bit.
I am trying to uninstall LibreOffice 4.4.5.2 before installing LibreOffice 5.0.2

I keep getting the following error:
Error 1402. Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE32\Software\Classes.pcd\OpenWithProgIds. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

As I am running the uninstaller with elevated privs how can I not have access to the key?

I just opened Regedit and discovered that I don’t have a HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE32, only a HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, viz:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.pcd]
@="EMBIRD64.File.pcd"
"Content Type"="application/octet-stream"

There’s nothing in the “OpenWithProgIDs” branch.

Is this a typo in the uninstaller?

After OKing that dialog, the uninstall rolls back, so I can’t uninstall. Am I stuck with 4.4.5.2 for the foreseeable?

I had less luck: On German Win10 prof 64bit, the uninstall went through, but the install failed with a strange error message that it could not write to its folder in the program files directory.
I tried 32bit and 64 bit installer, also administrator, but same problem.

That leaves me without LO, forcing me to use WPS or Softmaker.

You need a Registry fix. Success reported with this in Q59687.
