Strange word spacing using writer

I’m using LibreOffice 5.0.2.2 under Linux Mint 17.1

The words ,when using Writer, are strangely spaced like the following:

“This is an exam ple of the issue.”

The extra space is the issue. It seems like the fonts get mixed or something and words get a small but noticeable space.
It happens to multiple words in the text. I did try several fonts, the issue persists.

i have a similar problem but it involves huge extra spacing between words in a justified paragraph. this is not the case in open office.

A small possibility that it is due to the OpenGL/OpenCL bug. Info to check + fixes at Q64314.
