Writer printing crap on upper left edge of pages

LibreOffice Writer has started printing a 3" row of garbage (looks like half characters with a line through them) at the upper left of the page (high in the header area). It is only doing this for one file (a file I’ve had for years and never had a problem with before). When I copy some pages from the file and paste into a new file and then try to print them, I get the same result. Page Preview does not show these marks. I have tried printing to two different printers and gotten the same result, so I know it must be something in the file, not a problem with the printer. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get rid of this? I NEED to print pages from this file! Thanks.

Sounds as if the file might be corrupt. Are you able to restore the file from a backup?

And/or there’s something special about the file. Have you changed/updated the print driver recently?

Could you post the file here for others to try and print? Then we could establish if it’s the file or LO that’s the problem.

Unfortunately I’ve already backed up the file everywhere since it started this behavior. I haven’t changed the printer driver. I did add a new printer, but that was after the problem started. I can’t really post the file, as it is over 2000 pages long and fairly proprietary.

Today when I was using it, I started getting a black box on every page. When I closed it and reopened it (without saving), they were gone. Writer seems very flakey since the last update! I’ve used it forever with only

one other problem (which I was never able to resolve); not sure what I’m going to do if it is no longer reliable, especially if it has corrupted my most important file…

The problem is intermittent. Yesterday, it went away and I was able to print just fine, but it will return. Also, now if I keep the file open for a while, I am getting large black boxes on the screen (happening in Calc, too). Should I reinstall?
