Spreadsheet link won't go away

I have an old spreadsheet with a link. I no longer need the link.

I went to Edit>Links>Break Link, answered Yes, and the link disappeared from the list, which is then empty.

I saved the spreadsheet and reopened it. The link has reappeared. I repeated this three times.

How do I lose the link?

May be you can try EditFind & Replace,

  • Search For: file:/
  • Other options: Search inFormulas

This allows you to find cells containing a formula that links to a file. You could then use e.g. ToolsCell ContentsFormula to Value to delete the link and keep the value.

You can also verify that names (created by InsertNames) do not create links pointing to files.

Good way, because maybe the link is created with an INDIRECT() or a DDE() function so break link can't break it, because the link is recreated by the functions.
