How do I put different styles of page numbers in different parts of a document in Writer?

MAC OS 10.10.5 LibreOffice v 5.0.22. I have tried to follow every direction listed in “help” and I cannot do this. I wish no page numbers on the first two pages, roman numerals on the next three, then regular numbers for the rest of the document. What are the steps to do this? Many of the instructions tell me to click on an item which does not even exist in my LibreOffice.

Hi

Presence or absence of the footer and the numbering style are managed by the Page Style.

You must therefore use 3 different page styles. In the PageNumbering.odt example I use:

  • the First Page style for the first two (no footer),
  • then a custom style RomanNumeral (footer, roman numerals) and then
  • the Default Style (footer, standard numeral) (rest of the document).
  1. To change the page style: click at the beginning of the page to apply a new style, then menu InsertManual BreakPage Break and select the style in the listbox.

You can also do this by right clicking on the first paragraph of the page, then ParagraphText Flow tab, check Breaks: InsertType: Page▸check With page style, select the style in the listbox.

  1. To set the style numbering : edit the page style concerned (sidebar or Format menu), in the dialog select Page tab, Layout Setting: select the format

  2. To enable or disable the footer, edit the page style concerned, select the Footer tab and (un)check Footer on.

  3. To insert the page number, click in the footer zone, then menu InsertFieldsPage Number.
