I am a very non-tech old lady, and just want to write a letter. I should just pick up a pen and forget typing, but typing is so much more clear than my handwriting… I go to applications, then Libreoffice and up comes libre=Impress, and I do not want to do a slide show, just a letter!!

you are not specifying which operating system you are using so I assume it’s Windows.
Open start menu and start typing ‘Writer’. It should open LibreOffice Writer, which is module for writing letters and other text documents.
You can even pull up shortcut to your desktop: when you locate Writer in start menu - just drag and drop it on a desktop and you’ll alway have it in a mouse click.
