copy and past numbers in calc

Maybe this has a very simple solution, if so I am sorry.
It is driving me nuts. I don’t use spreadsheets at all usually, so please forgive if this question is stupid.

The only thing I want to do is copy some numbers from one file to the other.
I hit ctrl-c, then ctrl-v and all that is pasted is a picture of a number.

I search and find the paste special. But this offers me only:
Source: Unknown source
PNG Bitmap
Bitmap

even if I want to copy within the same file.

more details:
I am using the latest version 5.0.4.2 on ubuntu.
the file is a csv file, the numbers are definitely numbers.
I can copy a single number by clicking on the field, and copying from the input line.
I cannot copy a row or column, which is what I need.

Hi

You use the right procedure but what you copy is clearly not a number entered into a table cell but a picture of a number. So paste can only generate an image.

Difficult to say more without having the spreadsheet. Are you at the origin of what you copy? Would it not already the result of a copy, from a web page, for example?

Regards

The procedure you used is correct. I just tried it using LO Version 5.0.4.2 for Windows and it worked fine. I suggest you uninstall the version you have and download a current stable version from the web.

UPDATE: 2016.0211
After your last response, I created a csv file with some numbers and opened it in LO Calc. I then opened a new Calc file and tried numerous combinations of copy and paste. I did not experience the effect you describe.

In my opinion, there are only two possible explanations for the problems you are experiencing: 1) a corrupt csv file; or 2) a corrupt LO install.

STEP 1:

Test to see if there is some trash or corruption in the csv file. Try creating a sample csv file and performing some copy and paste tests as I did. If your results are the same as mine, there is something wrong with your original csv file.

If STEP 1 does not point to a resolution, proceed to STEP 2.

STEP 2:

Once again, I recommend you uninstall your version of LibreOffice, go to the web, and download and install a stable version of the latest release.

Good luck.

By the way, your question is not stupid. Sometimes things just don’t work the way they are supposed to.

The question might be stupid, but I am not.

I reiterate, your question is not stupid.
