Can I get a simple word processor instead of this?

This is the most frustrating and time consuming program I have ever seen.

With all it’s “features,” if I mistype something or accidentally hit a key it adds something weird, like replacing all of the “a” characters in the text with bullets. It takes literally hours to search the help files and view a correction which inevitably does not work.

Another example: I am working on a one page document I want in portrait format, but it displays as a two page book layout and neither page is 8.5 x 11.0. Instead of following the next page below the text, it splashes over to the facing page. I still cannot find a fix for this problem.

I just want a word processing program not this behemoth. How do I make Libre do the simple task?

totally agree. Have been using computers and Word, etc for 20 years, but this is frustratingly complex and counter-intuitive. Not to mention the “help” function is useless. I lose documents and it takes 20 minutes to find them. They seem to save in odd places. I don’t have a search/find box in my Text Writer and can’t figure out how to search for a document besides scrolling through all of them. Just plain difficult.

LibreOffice is very similar to ANY word processor worth it’s salt developed over the last couple of decades. Except LibreOffice is better

I would suggest that you search out some tutorial help that will help get you started. It really can produce as simple or as complex documents as you desire.

Here are a couple of suggestions:

Before you do something “weird” on many software applications it is useful to learn one useful and simple command. It is usually the first one I teach to learners. EDIT > UNDO can remove the effects of the last single or even multiple commands. 8.5 x 11.0 (presumably inches) is American Letter size. When playing with paper settings it is always better to use the real names which actually match the paper sizes understood by the printer. In Europe we us A4 paper and 8.5 x 11.0 would not match our printers.

You do not say what operating system, language, hardware you are using which does limit any help it is possible to give. Are you using LibreOffice, if so which version?

Apparently you don’t have experience with more advanced word processors such as Microsoft Word or LibreOffice Writer. @petermau and @JohnD are correct, try learning a few simple commands by working through short tutorials, reading forums, and just “trying things.”

I also agree with @petermau that you do not provide any details that would be helpful in guiding you to a solution to your problem. Without those details, here are some additional suggestions:

If you want really simple word processing, there are a number of plain text editors out there (such as Notepad) that may serve your needs. For something more advanced, Google Docs is the word processor found in Google Drive. As I understand it, Google developed this word processor for the 80% of the market that do not need the power of applications such as Microsoft Word and LibreOffice Writer.

I know this is not a LO-centric answer, but I think it is more important to suggest a solution that works for you. I hope you find the answer you need.
