[Writer] Multiple subpanels in right sidebar?

I am using LO 5.0.5.2 under Linux. As shipped, LO right sidebar can display Properties, Styles & Formatting, Gallery or Navigator panels with a click on one of the margin icons.

My present workflow makes me have very frequent switches between Styles & Formatting and Navigator. Previous LO versions allowed to have several sub-panels in the right sidebar. You only had to drag an drop a tool window to dock it into the side bar so that selecting the desired item could be done in one click. In the present situation two clicks are necessary, not counting those needed to reopen the collapsed groups (the little triangles) after selecting a new panel.

I tried this to dock the Navigator below the Styles & Formatting panel but could not succeed.

I do not like the workaround with a floating window above the right sidebar because part of the list [in the sidebar] can be hidden by the floating window. Another bonus of split sub-panels is you can adjust the separation between both to minimise further scrolling when looking for an item.

Is there a way to get the previous look and feel with a split sidebar?

F5 brings up and removes the Navigator sidebar, F11 brings up and removes the Styles and Formatting sidebar. I found out on my (LibO 5.1, Linux) that if press in sequence F11, then F5, then F11 once more you will have the split sidebar Styles above Navigator. Then you can move the join up and down as required.

Personally, I just leave the Styles in position and just bring up the floating Navigator (F5) when required, F5 to drop it.

Thanks, but not working. If I try to drag and drop over the sidebar, the floating window will try to maximise if I drag beyond screen limit. I’m beginning to suspect some configuration problem with Fedora 23, Wayland and nouveau driver (does not appear to be very stable).

I switched off OpenGL, rebooted my machine and performed the magic stance. Sub-panels appeared side-by-side, which is great when lists are long. After some fiddling, I succeeded placing the sub-panels one above the others. Thanks for the trick.

However, I could not dock directly a floating window with drag and drop.

It looks like I need to try try to change the floating window size to be able to dock it. Don’t know if this is a bug and if it is, where the source is located (LO – doubtful --, Wayland or some other system utility).

I have not same platform (windows) but I can still anchor the navigator above/below stylist in the sidebar:

• F5 to display the navigator
• drag on the sidebar

• drop
