Can I put libre office on xp sp2?

Any version will do

It is worth noting the system requirements currently state “Microsoft Windows XP SP3” (emphasis mine). This page was updated from “SP2” to “SP3” sometime during 2015-09-11 to 2015-10-15 and would now appear to be the baseline requirement. This also appears to be confirmed in tdf#94283. Related threads here and here.

The last version of LO now available for WinXP SP2 is therefore likely v4.4.x. Perhaps try installing v4.4.7.2 and if that fails v4.3.7.2.

I am not a lawyer! Just telling my very personal opinion.
It should still be legal to update a legitimate Win XP SP2 with an SP3.cab (if you have access).

@Lupp, yes, that is correct. I converted my comment into an answer once I found the addition links. On my phone the author of each post is not visible, so I have no idea who I am responding to

SP3 was never released for Window$ $erver variant of XP, which makes installation of LO on such systems impossible (nobody should be using XP anyway).

There may be systems not so happy with newer Win. The ‘WINDOWS’ directory of my former system is about 6.3GiB (including the SPn.cab s still). My Win 8.1 ‘Windows’ folder is three times that size. Hardselling by cooperative upsizing of hard- and software still works well. Useless features of office software may help.In fact enhanced indexing of objects and contents is the only relevant advantage of Win 8 in my eyes. Much more things got worse.

Although there’s plenty of intentional bloating, there’s also more features and more can be done than previously.

Editing: I had missed the “SP2 issue” Owen pointed to. Refer his answer!

Choose the 32 bit msi (application; offline help, additional language packs if any) or a version packed as PortableApp (also 32 bit to date). It should work.

You can pick nearly everything from this location. The “old” does not mean much. Young versions also offered!

Eventually managed to get the computer XP system to configure Libre5 ,originally it downloaded ok and the libre wizard installed it but I could not get it to run until I went into the control system and repaired the program when it seem to take an hour for it to configure but now works OK.
