I can't print a spreadsheet to fit the page

I have spent 6 hours now trying to find help on how to fit a spreadsheet onto a printed sheet. I have set my page margins at 0.5" and yet, the spreadsheet prints out utilizing a tiny, tiny portion of the page, and I have searched and searched trying to figure this out. I’ve tried the print preview command - sheet - scale and tried all three options, but none work. The best that I can achieve, to utilize the full size of the 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper, is to use “Reduce/enlarge printout” and set it to 87% but everything is too small to read at 87%. I want 100% and I want to fill the piece of paper that I am printing on, which is 8.5" x 11". I have the page set on Landscape.
If anyone could help me, I would be grateful. Also, I am using Version: 5.1.0.3. Thanks.

I just discovered that there were TONS of spaces in a cell in a spreadsheet that was created in Excel (almost as if the creator had leaned something against the keyboard and pressed and held the space bar). While Excel appears to ignore them as white space, Calc appears to consider these spaces as printable characters, resulting in the entire page showing up as a tiny little square at the top left. Once those errant spaces were removed, the page printed normally. Hopefully, this will help someone in the future.

I think you may have some spaces or other non-visible characters in cells outside the range you want printed. Press Ctrl+End to see the recognized end of your sheet. Delete unwanted cells, rows, columns.

Or, select the range of cells that you want printed. Then on the Print window choose “Selected Cells”.

Thank you! I will try again  Now, I have to figure out how to give you a vote, or whatever it’s called here, for being kind and answering my question. You are very much appreciated!

For spreadsheets sent in email, you may want to look at the menu item View/Page Break. This shows lines at the boundary of pages. These lines can be grabbed and moved. I have only used this to fix page width on versions 5.2.7 and 4.3.3.

I have a similar problem but if your only printing 1 page at a time and set a print range for the page you are trying to print, then you can use the zoom command to change the size to fit the margins. However you cannot change the height of the header and footer.

I have the same problem. I got to print on 8.5" x 11". Orientation is set to Automatic, which in this case is Portrait. I change this to Landscape. It changes the orientation to Landscape, however, it only uses 8.5" of the 11" width, all on the left side of the page. It does me no good to switch to Landscape if it doesn’t let me use the full 11" (minus margins).

Try the menu item Format > Page Style, select the tab Page and change Orientation to Landscape.

Check if all OK in File > Print Preview. You can adjust the margins by clicking the the Margin icon.

Also, in Print Preview you can use the slider to adjust size (how much you can fit on each sheet) or you can click the Format Page icon and adjust scale in the Sheet tab, or fit to a number of pages.
