Is it possible to upgrade to a new version of LO without changing preferences, foreign language input settings, etc.?

I am using v. 5’s Writer with Linux Mint 17. I also have Calc, but no other LO application, installed.

There’s usually a reason when something changes. At least I think so. On Linux it’s different from Window$.
