Footnote Formatting: Thick and thin separator lines?

Hello everyone,

I am using the latest version of LibreOffice Portable to write my dissertation, but have been having strange problems with my footnote formatting. The values for “space to text” and “spacing to footnote contents” seem to change values between when I hit “Apply” and then “OK” (they become negative, strangely enough?) I have the footnote area set to ‘Not larger than the page area’, but I have also had trouble with footnotes not staying on the same page as their anchors.

A related issue is that my separator lines are currently randomly thicker or thinner from page to page; I didn’t even know this was possible, since the Format → Page dialog box only allows you to set it for the entire document. This only happened after I tried to resolve the anchoring/spacing problems. What could be going on?

Thanks, kmc

Hey

I also have this issue with my dissertation, and I think you can sort it out.

For the modification of values : just click on “ok” and it will work (the button apply is the cheeky one). Or else, if you click on apply and it shows weird values, just click on cancel, and then you will see that it gives what you wanted.

For the style of the separator, I also had that at some point. Have you checked if maybe you set up two different styles for right and left pages ? Or if your style page correctly applies to all pages ? It should work. I think I just did it again and again, and check the style page but eventually it worked.

Good luck

L.

Thanks so much, I’ll give it a try. I just got LO to play nicely with Zotero, but if I can’t resolve these formatting issues it will be a dealbreaker.

Well, a few months later and I still have this issue. I’ve tried everything with page styles, indents, Apply, OK, and everything else and I still have different widths of footnote separator lines. The differences are preserved when I export to pdf, so it is not just a display issue. Please someone help- it looks so unprofessional!

I have the same problem, and posted a question about it here:

It has been more than a week and only eight people have seen it and no one has answered. Do people ever use footnotes?
