I downloaded the lastest version of LibreOffice (5.1.1.3) and I can no longer run my databases. It tells me that Java can't be found

When I try to run the database I get the following message. LibreOffice requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. The selected JRE is defective. Please select another version or install a JRE and select it under LibreOffice - Preferences - LibreOffice - Advanced. I have downloaded the latest version of Java version 8 Update 77 (build 1.8.0_77-bo3). I tested this version of Java using Firefox and Oracle said that my version of Java is fine. I can’t locate Java on my computer and so I can’t find it when I use the browse option under LibreOffice - Preferences - LibreOffice - Advanced. The Advanced preference says Java runtime environments (JRE) already installed: , but nothing in listed in the box below. What do I do?

See Java

I did see Java. So far I haven’t gotten an answer to my question, but I have spent a lot of time trying to get an answer from Java. You would think it would be very simple.

Please click on the word Java. This is a link that will take you to the answer.

I did click on Java. I have loaded both the JRE and the JDK versions. LibreOffice base still won’t run on my Mac.

JRE is not necessary since it is included in JDK. This may cause a problem. Also see this post. Future posts should include operating system.

I have downloaded the latest version of Java and LibreOffice database will still not run.

Sorry, but I don’t have any Mac background. Other than what I believe you did already ( completely remove JRE & JDK then re-install JDK only) I fail to see where the problem may be.
