Adding Footnotes And Linking Them

Hi

I write ebooks. Lots of them. But, I write one particular genre where the footnotes are necessary. It’s a military series. In my old books I could just add a footnote by highlighting a word or a term, and then press add footnote. This was using Word BTW! Then the footnote would present itself, I could add in the info I needed to and of course, a character would be present where I highlighted. On word, it would then allow the user to click that “1” and be automatically placed down at the representing footnote. No scrolling necessary. I had to do this manually on Word because it wasn’t working the regular way lol. Once the user was done reading the footnote, they could then click the character in reference to the original word/term I highlighted and then could be put BACK to where they originally were in the book. Jeez, I hope that made sense!

Anyway, I just love LibreOffice! I figured I would give it a go. I did pretty much everything above that I would do on word and it resulted in pretty much the same results. However, I am not seeing the ability to click the character to be automatically brought down to the correct footnote. And then clicking the character to go back up to where the reader was originally.

Am I unable to do this on LibreOffice? I guess it’s not THAT big of a deal haha. I just like to try and make it as easy for my readers as I can.

Any help would be appreciated. I am still pretty new at LibreOffice and while I am a natural button push (and did a search on Google) I didn;t exactly know how to word this, so I couldn’t exactly find what I was lookin for!

Thanks ahead of time.

Kristi

If you mean clicking the footnote number, going back and forth is exactly how it works here. LO 5.1.2 on linux.

Hm. I am clicking the number/character on the word right now and it’s not doing much of anything. I keep clicking it and the mouse just stays on the number. I was having a problem earlier this month when they update came out. I DID do the update but was still having issues. Perhaps this has something to do with the footnote issue? Can I uninstall and reinstall? Would that fix it?

@kristiambrose, please ensure you are using the ODT file format. There is a known problem with linking for endnotes once exported to PDF (tdf#38187) but my experience with both note forms in an ODT under GNU/Linux agrees with that reported by @paul1149.

It should do it exactly as you expect.

If it’s a bug you may want to file it at: http://libreoffice.org/get-help/bug

Word of advice, when having issues, better always to state LO version and OS you are using.

Good luck.
