Is there a way of opening a LibreOffice document in Word?

If I send a LibreOffice document to someone who uses Word, is there a way in which they can open the document?

There are two ways.

First, you can save the document in LO Writer to Word format. In my experience so far, there should be little or no difference between the original odt and the resulting doc or docx.

Second, they can open the odt document in Word, but they will have to click past the error messages. MS will alert them to file corruption and ask them if they want to recover the damaged document.

As far as I have seen so far, the document opens fine when you click past the error messages. It appears to me this is less about LO and open document format, and more about MS not playing well with the other children.

Word 2013 opens odt files with no error message. Older Word versions had only OpenDocument 1.1 implemented while LO was/is using 1.2.

Thanks for the info, @horst. I’m still using MS-Office 2007.
