I can't make use of page breaks or sections?

Hello, I have recently downloaded Libre for the first time, after wanting to throw my laptop out of the window using Microsoft Word 2011 for Mac. What an awful program.

I am currently writing 4 in depth training booklets for my restaurant. These booklets are to be printed in an A5 booklet format, which was not possible in Word 2011. Straight away I could see how easy it was in LO.

I am running LO 5.1.3 for OSX. In the booklets that I am writing I am trying to understand headers and footers. I want to have different Headers for each section of the training manuals (introduction, health & safety, general rules, etc etc…) however no amount of page breaks or “section” inserts I add to the document make any difference.

I can only seem to have alternating headers for L/R pages, and a separate one for the very first page, if I want to. If I try add a page break and change the header after this new page break, it changes all the previous headers throughout the document. I know this is probably quite simple but everything I’ve read so far hasn’t been able to help me.

I will eventually also want to add a contents page that links certain headers to their location in the document, so I don’t have to keep going through and amending the document as and when things move about. Is this possible in LO?

Thanks in advance for anyones help on this. I’m much preferring this program over any other word processing program I’ve used.

To achive what you look for you may try to insert an automatic field into the header.

Try:

Insert > Field > More fields

then select the Document tab and Type: Chapter, in format select the one you prefer.

In this way you don’t need different section since the program inserts in the field the text of the heading of the chapter of the current page.

Hi there, unfortunately this hasn’t worked either. I can’t see the insertion of a new chapter doing anything at all?

Sorry, any other suggestions would be greatly received!

Thanks.
