I would like to be able to select the text for all footnotes in a document at once, but previous solutions that I have found require all footnotes to share the same style. If my footnotes include text with various styles (i.e., not simply Footnote, but also Default Style, etc.), is there any way to select all footnotes nonetheless? Among other things, this would be helpful for resetting the style of all footnotes to Footnote after various text with other styles has been included in footnotes through cutting and pasting.

Hi

To my knowledge you can not select all footnotes, this is a limitation inherited from OOo and which was the subject of a (very old) request for enhancement.

A workaround is to temporarily group footnotes at the end of document and use the Fill Format tool.

Steps:

  • ToolsFootnotes/EndnotesFootnotes tab▸Position: End of document
  • Go to end of document
  • FormatStyles and Formatting (or sidebar)
  • Click Fill Format Mode, select the style to apply, clic on paragraphs.
  • Esc to stop Fill Format Mode (or click again on the tool)

Regards

That's not how professional journals work. Some using the Chicago/Turabian Style Manual require footnotes at the base of each page and NOT at the end of the document. Many of these use 12 font. However, I submitted an article to a British journal that required a 9 font. I need a function to choose ALL to be able to go from one font size to another.

I can't provide footnotes at the end of the document as they then would be endnotes. If a journal wants footnotes, that is what they have to be. So far I've endured the laborious task of changing one footnote at a time from 9 font to 12 font, but I won't do it any more since MS Word 2003 gives Ctrl+a as a shortcut for choosing all footnotes. Are there people upgrading software for LO who can attend to this malfunction?
