I get the blacked out blocks in the input line for calc - cannot upload a picture of the problem because of lack of points. Looks similar to text overlap problem someone else has listed for dropdown boxes in writer.
I came searching for an answer to the same problem. Just downloaded and installed LO 5.1.3 for Windows, running on Win 7 machine.
May be a font problem, but the number 1 is replaced by a black rectangle in the input line. I see no way to change the font in the input line.
Anyone have a solution? I’m about to revert to 5.1.2.

I completely uninstalled LO 5.1.3.2. I installed LO 5.1.2. I do not remember whether I rebooted my machine, but LO no settings were changed. The problem did not appear.
A day later, I reinstalled LO 5.1.3.2. I did not reboot my computer and no LO settings were changed. The problem did not reappear.
Try this “solution” and see if it works for you.
