Basic question, for office use, stick with 4.2, or move to 5.1

I have a few users on libre office 4.2 and for a year or so it’s been pretty smooth. They are light duty users and as far as I know have had only a few issues with converting formats etc.

It does prompt for the update to 5.1. I haven’t pulled the trigger on that because while I’m sure 5.1 is at least as good as 4.2, I don’t know what kind of UI experience alterations come with it. I know these users want as little disturbance from what they’re used to.

But it is important to have a secure version. Is there a simple way to update to the most current version of 4.x, or is it simply the wise thing to do to follow along with the current version?

All of the users are on Windows 7 pro.

You can view the various change logs, but I don’t think there’s much radically different. Some menu changes come to mind - addition of Styles menu, for instance. You know your employees best. Install 5.x on your own machine and evaluate.

Thanks that’s enough of a scope of change for me to proceed with the update for these few users.

If I wanted to, could I patch the 4.x version to the latest of 4.x? Are security issues patched for older versions? That’s kind of what my focus is.

I believe most back versions are available. As you get higher in a series, more bugs are squashed, but the 5 series has some nice advances. I’m running 5.2 RC2 without much problem, and context menus are customizable.
