Secret Watermark

Hello folks,

I’ve looked for an answer to this, but no joy. I’ll ask here.

I’m making some documents, I want to prove ownership beyond any doubt.

Can I add a hidden or secret watermark or in some way add metadata that names me as the owner of the documents.

I want it to be undetectable, the people who I’ll provide it for will be clueless regarding this sort of thing anyway.

Also, the documents will likely be converted to Microsoft format somewhere along the line.

What do you all think? Can I do this?

Secret as in “really secret” I don’t think it is possible, but secret as in “a random guy who randomly opens this file will not notice this”… maybe. Try filling some fields on File → Properties dialogue and then send a PDF created with File → Export as PDF: all those fields (title, keywords, etcetera) will be included on the resulting PDF together with the “author” information you set on Tools → Options → LibreOffice → User data.

Also, you could learn more about “digital signature” (available under File → Digital signature), but that’s a more complex topic and I cannot help you with it.

You can use cell protection and put your name in a cell that would be protected and hidden from users unless they enter a password.

Choose a suitable cell, Enter your information.
“Format”, “Cells…”, “Cell Protection”, and selected “Hide all” and “Hide when printing”.
“Tools”, “Protect sheet”, and enter a password that you can remember.

You need to unprotect the sheet using the password to view the information you entered in the cell.
