Why did all my odt, ods files change to the same "date modified" date and now cannot be opened.

I downloaded LO version 5 last week and used it but on 8/2/16, all my ODS and ODT files had their “date modified” date changed to 8/2/16. Don’t know how this happened but the files cannot not be opened. All I get are screens filled with
xxxxxxx xxxxxx xxxxxxx xxxxxxx
etc
etc

Are you sure this is not the work of a virus?
