Autocorrect "text only" greyed out in all: Writer, Calc, etc

I noticed there’s a box called “text only” in the auto-correct dialog, but in all programs (with auto-correct: Writer, Calc and Impress, at least) it’s checked but grayed out, so I can’t input non-text-only new entries to the replacement table. Why am I unable to tick that box? How can I solve it?

(Someone asked the same thing here, but it was never answered…)

Also, LO’s Help doesn’t say much about what one can do with “non-text-only” entries. For example, I type “i.e.” a lot. Since it’s (the abbreviation of) a Latin expression, it should be in italics, so I would like to type simply “ie” and have it replaced for “i.e.” (in italics). Can it be made? (And a more advanced question: if it can be made, would typing “ie” inside an italics text produce “i.e.” (without italics)? In other words, would the replacement italics counter-effect the italics already present or not? (I would prefer yes.)

(Someone asked before about something even more difficult, as the replacement text had to be formatted non-uniformly. Supposedly there was a bug which got solved, but I can’t seem to use the feature and I don’t know what I should be doing different…)

Text only can only be accessed if you have selected text in your document. When ticked, it will ignore any formatting. Not ticked, it will replace including the formatting.

Type i.e. in your text, apply Italics. With that selected, open Tools - Autocorrect options and voilà.

Also works with mixed formatting.

Floris, that nailed it. The idea isn’t actually that intuitive, but it’s quite simple indeed. That should be included in LO’s documentation (at Replace - LibreOffice Help, for instance). Thank you!
