I've installed Java 8 but

Libre Base won’t work without Java. I installed Java 8, but still got errors. I have since discovered (in terminal) …
java version “1.8.0_101”
Java™ SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_101-b13)
Java HotSpot™ 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.101-b13, mixed mode)

I have tried everything to get rid of that version to re-install the later version, but it just won’t go.
I got rid of the JavaAppletPlugin.plugin.
I got rid of the JavaControlPanel.prefpane.

I tried it in Terminal too …
sudo rm -rf /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/
sudo rm -rf /Library/PreferencePanes/JavaControlPanel.prefPane

I’ve restarted the computer but when I go into terminal, it confirms java version “1.8.0_101” is still there.

How do I get rid of it?

Problem solved. I uninstalled LibreOffice … then installed OpenOffice. Now it works!

I don’t understand why, as I thought they were both built on the same back end.

Did you have 64 bits LibreOfice and 32 bits java? That would explain it. Those two don’t go together.
