Header and Footer disappearing

Hello,

I have a multiple page document that I’ve compiled from separate documents. I have added a header to the document. When I save it and close, and then reopen the document, the header is gone on the first 5 pages (the first chapter of the document). The rest of the document has the header (the remaining chapters). Also, the page numbers which were entered as a footer also disappear.

Somehow I selected “Converter 12” for the header setting, and I thought that was the problem. But I’ve changed it back to “Default” and the problem persists.

In the course of combining the original documents into this one, did differing page styles get retained?

If you have the document open in the first five pages, what do you see when you press F11 (menu bar = Format > Styles and Formatting)? (You will see five “style” icons under the window title: “page styles” are second from right.) Right-click on the highlighted style, the “Modify”, then click on the Header tab - does it need to be turned “on”?

You could compare to see what “page style” is assigned to pages 6-end, using the same procedure.

(This is how you keep the running Header off the first page, btw: by assigning the “First Page” page style to the first page [doh!], and turning off the Header.)

Hope that helps…

David, Thanks for the help. I went back through the document and found that many of the headers and footers were “Converter 12” and “Converter 17” etc. I believe these titles refer to page styles. However, I changed all of these back to Default (by opening Styles and Formatting via F11) and the problem persists.

I opened the document on a Mac and inserted headers and page numbers there.

Would still like to know how to fix this in the future.

Thanks
