Mac Finder Not Working

I was surprised when searching with my new mac that it didn’t find any documents that contained the word I was searching for.

I have looked all over the web, and got one response on another forum (which didn’t work). Is there anything that can be done to coax the Mac Finder/Spotlight to search .odt documents for distinct words.

Does anybody have a solution, or am I doomed now to writing my book in .txt format?

Do please let me know.

Ciao, did you control your setting in Spotlight perferences? The attach is a screenshot of my iMac (OSX 10.7.5) in Italian language, but i hope it will help you.

Charlie,

thankyou for your response. I saw an article last night that suggested I do this, which I have.

What interested me most was that Apple had chosen Bing to share their searches with - Bing being from Microsoft, of all people! This tells me that LibreOffice documents cannot be searched because it is an implicit warning to use Microsoft Office which the authorities find easier to keep an eye on.

From what I read, it is a case that if you want privacy on the net, you will have to accept that it won’t be possible to do certain things. It’s a subtler warning than the head of a horse in one’s bed…
