I want to compare sheets for differences

I have two copies of the same information, somewhere there is an inconsistency, how can I compare them and highlight
the item or items on both sheets so I can determine which is correct?

Thank you for helping me, I hope… Budd

Hi

2 answers concern Calc (spreadsheet module) because you mention sheets. But you have tagged Impress. Is it this ?

Regards

Hi it should have been Calc, Sorry! Budd

Copy each sheet to a new document (context menu on sheet tab, “Move or Copy Sheet …”, Action Copy, Location To document, new document) and save each new document, e.g. name1.ods and name2.ods

In name2.ods menu Edit - Compare Document… pick name1.ods and you’re presented with a list of changes, you can travel around with the dialog and accept or reject each change. Note that changes are “from 1 to 2” if you proceed in this order.

When done you can copy the data over to the original sheet via clipboard. To copy or move the entire sheet like in the steps before you first have to go to menu Edit - Track Changes and disable Record Changes because otherwise the Copy/Move sheet option is disabled.

Hi it should have been Calc, this is my first time using help. I was finally able to accomplish my comparison, but my sheets had passwords and I saw somewhere else to try removing the password and rename the name 2 sheet, I did and after completing my project saved that sheet to its original name and used the same password. worked great… Budd Thanks

You can use conditional formatting to highlight cells that are not identical between the two sheets.

Select cell range on the first sheet.
Then Format, Conditional Formatting, Condition…
Cell value is, not equal to, and in the empty box select the first cell of the range on the other sheet.
Remove the $ from the cell reference of the other sheet in the box.
Choose New Style from the drop down box and set a highlight color for cell background.
