Need Larger Calc Toolbar Buttons

Greetings

Now that I’ve successfully switch my Office-y wife to Writer and Calc – I made a $20 contribution to Libre. I’ll do it annually if the following request happens: please OH PLEASE offer enlarged buttons in Calc. (See picture.)

Do you already have the icons set to large?

Try menu “Tools”, “Options”, expand LibreOffice, select View, and set Icon size and style.

You can also increase scaling but that doesn’t increase the icon size.

Thank you for your response.

Yes. I’m already at large. I followed this exact advice from OpenOffice board thread (from 2013) and so I’m not the only person finding these buttons too small.

Is this feature too difficult to implement? If it would mean having the designers design new sets of larger icons for each set I’d see THAT as a bit of nightmare. However – if maybe one or two BIG sets existed I’m sure we people needing this feature would be content.

From your screenshot I guessed you were using Linux so I checked on my Linux Mint running under Virtual Box and it seems the icons are larger compared to text menu above the icons. Unfortunately I couldn’t figure out how to capture a screenshot, but I see three icons below the first four menu items, compared to only three menu items for three icons in your screen shot. This was LibreOffice 5.1.4.2 in Linux mint 18. Display set at 1920x1080. Similar to 5.2.1.2 on windows 8.1.

Galaxy Icon Style is slightly larger than the other styles. I think you are using Sifr which seems to be slightly smaller. I suppose the relative size difference that I saw in your screenshots is because you increased the scaling.

I didn’t increase scaling via Calc. That’s actually a digital image where I took that row and simply stretched it to be bigger. By the way I’m not requesting that EXACT size increase but more suggesting a ballpark size.

This is really a feature request, and feature requests should be posted at https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/

Maybe the developers didn’t think of the necessity of larger buttons. But anyway, the icons are bitmaps, and at that size you probably have to completely redraw most icons for a greater size, so that might be a lot of work. Larger buttons have a cost: they take up more room on the screen, so there’s less space for the editor area. Do you want that? Do you really need the tool bar so often? Maybe you should learn important key bindings by heart and use the menu with interface scaling to 120 % or so for all commands that you don’t use very often, and then you can do without the tool bars.

  1. Why offer a feature request at a ‘bug’ list"
  2. All of coding is work. Can’t suggest a feature without asking someone to work. In this instance it requires only ONE set of intentionally larger buttons. My concern is that the app must ‘stretch’ as well to accommodate larger buttons.
  3. If LO allows one to choose which buttons even show (I think it does) many people could probably reduce those two rows of buttons down to one EASY TO READ row, right?
  4. Who created SIFR icons?

My best answer (from discussion) is to ask the artist who created these icons to consider increasing their size. Go to the source, lol.

Thanks for assist peeps
