odt document modified par MS Word: styles not maintained

Is there a way to better preserve format styles in a document which is composed in LO Writer and then modified (ie the text and content has been modified) in MS Word. I composed a document with LO Writer, including text, footnotes, page numbers, and graphics and then I sent the draft to colleagues who use MS Word for feedback (in .doc or .docx). The versions they send back (having only modified the text, and not the format or styles) have lots of style changes when I reopen them in Writer: footnotes, margins, font, and even my graphics no longer appear.

I generally use .RTF format when sharing a file for editing with colleagues using other OS’s or word processors. I don’t know that it guarantees stability moving back and from one system to another, but it seems to have a better chance of survival in my experience. FWIW!
