Different format for first page

I want to format the first page for use with letterhead while additional pages continue to use default format, i.e. first page has a top margin of 2 inches other pages use .78 inches

To do that, you need to define two page styles.

Out-of-the-box LO comes with several styles, just modify two of them.

First display the style catalogue with Format → Styles and Formatting or F11, then click on the fourth icon from the left in the toolbar (Page Styles).

Default Style: set it for the additional pages

First Page: set it for your first page layout and, in the Organizer tab, check that Next Style drop-down menu is Default Style

When you start writing your letter, double click on First Page so that the page style is forced to it. Thanks to the Next Style setting, the page style will automatically switch to Default Style when the bottom of the page is reached.

If this helps, please tick the check mark at left. If the answer has some value for you, upvote it, karma permitting. Close the question, for commun ity benefit, if this is the answer to your concern.

From version at least 5.2.3 you can manage with one page style. Modify the page style you already have, Default, select the Header tab, then uncheck the option Same content on first page.

This property applies only to header content. If you want to exhibit a different layout (geometry), as requested by the original question, you have no other solution than defining two page styles.

Good point.
