Can't get cursor back to 'select' arrow

Struggling with the new interface.

I entered some text, managed to change the colour but now the cursor is a paint can icon and I can’t get rid of the paint can & get back the “select” cursor arrow.

How to get back to normal?

I hit my escape ‘esc’ key to solve this for me.

I’m on a Mac

I had the same exact problem on Ubuntu 16.04 desktop. That was the correct solution, thanks!
