Is Google Docs import supported?

Does LO support direct ‘import’ of Google Docs files/documents – and if so, how accurate is it at preserving GDocs formatting?

Also, if it doesn’t directly support those formats, does copy-&-paste work reasonably well (including document ‘tables’)?

Thanks.

When you download your files from Google Docs (Google Drive) they are automatically converted to Microsoft Word DOCX files.
So you can select a bunch of files and download them all at once.

Those DOCX files can then be opened in LibreOffice Writer.

Download a few files and test.

Thanks. Are you referring to an actual ‘import’ feature in LO when you say ‘download,’ as opposed to simply ‘opening’ a GDocs doc (same as you would a file in LO’s native format) while in LO? The latter is more what I had in mind.

I had assumed you were trying to move from Google Docs to LibreOffice.

There is an old OpenOffice extension which may still work.

See this article: Connect LibreOffice with your Google Docs account by using OOo2gd

Extension is here: http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/ooo2gd/

Looks like the extension is now over here at LibreOffice extensions

OpenOffice.org2GoogleDocs - export & import to Google Docs, Zoho, WebDAV

https://extensions.libreoffice.org/extensions/openoffice.org2googledocs-export-import-to-google-docs-zoho-webdav

Thanks. Goal is to move most GDocs to LO but have too many for ‘all at once.’

Going by the info, the extension dates back quite a while, possibly before GDocs itself was last completely revised. Is the ext. known to work with current GDocs files?

(Must be a posting delay of some kind here. I had checked back here a few times following my last post and found no further replies. The replies I’m seeing now list as almost 4 days old, yet the notification emails are dated today Jan. 7.)

I did notice that the extension version here is v3.0.0 and the one at OpenOffice is v3.0.1.

So I would try the one there first.

From what I have read it is still working so give it a try.

Please come back and report your results.
