How use same footnote symbol

I would like to use the same footnote symbol for several items on the same page. That is, I would like 3 sentences on different parts of the page to be marked with * and only one footnote at the bottom of the page that would apply to all 3. It looks like this can’t be done directly but I wonder if there is a macro or some other way to enable this.

Workaround: insert the footnote as usual on the first spot, then go to the second and Insert → Fields → Other → Cross reference tab → Footnotes and select “Reference” instead of page or chapter. You can then copy/paste the cross reference to the third spot. See this sample file.
